Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

Effective Date: April 16, 2026

1. General Description and Acceptance

Rui Codex ("we", "our", or "us") provides the Document Reader mobile application. This Privacy Policy governs your use of the application and explains our data practices. By downloading, accessing, or using the application, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall and discontinue using the application immediately.

We explicitly disclaim any liability for potential data loss, corruption, or unintentional disclosure of your local files. The application is provided "as is" and "as available".

2. Data Collection & Processing (Offline Scope)

Document Reader is fundamentally an offline-first application. Our primary goal is to parse and render your PDF, DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files directly on your device CPU/Memory.

  • No Cloud Uploads: We do not secretly upload, read, transmit, or store any of your private documents on Rui Codex servers or third-party cloud infrastructure.
  • Device Storage Permissions: The application legally requires READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permissions strictly to locate and render the documents residing in your device.
  • Local Caching: Recently opened files and UI preferences are stored locally using encrypted on-device Hive storage.

3. Third-Party Data Collection (AdMob Integration)

To support ongoing development and provide the application for free, we integrate Google AdMob. Advertising networks require certain non-personally identifiable diagnostic data to serve appropriate advertisements.

Google AdMob inherently collects and processes information such as:

  • Device Advertising ID (AAID)
  • Device type, model, and operating system
  • Usage data, including ad interaction metrics
  • Coarse geographic location (based on IP)

We hold absolutely no liability for how Google LLC processes this ad-related data. For more information regarding Google's exact data processing mechanics, you are strongly advised to read Google's Privacy & Terms.

4. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

While we do not collect your personal documents or sensitive information on our servers, third-party libraries (such as AdMob) may trigger compliance rules under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Users residing in applicable regions will be presented with a Consent Management form provided natively by Google (UMP) inside the app to accept or deny tailored advertising. Rui Codex explicitly disclaims any liability for local regulatory violations stemming from your geographic usage if you bypass or manipulate consent interfaces.

5. App Stability and Analytics

In order to provide maintenance and crash fixes, the app may eventually incorporate crash reporting tools. In such event, the app will log device state (RAM usage, battery, stack traces) solely for the engineering purpose of debugging crashes. This data will never contain your document contents.

6. Limitation of Liability & Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Rui Codex be liable for any special, incidental, indirect, or consequential damages whatsoever (including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, loss of data or other information, for business interruption, for personal injury, loss of privacy) arising out of or in any way related to the use of or inability to use the application.
